Impact of aerosol–radiation interaction on new particle formation

Abstract. New particle formation (NPF) is thought to contribute half of the global cloud condensation nuclei. A better understanding NPF at different altitudes can help assess impact on and corresponding physical properties. However, not sufficiently understood in upper mixing layer because previous studies mainly focused ground-level measurements. In this study, developments aerosol size distribution are characterized based field measurement conducted January 2019 Beijing, China. We find that partition nucleation-mode particles larger than ground, which implies nucleation processing more likely happen ground. Results radiative transfer model show photolysis rates nitrogen dioxide ozone increase with altitude within layer, leads a higher concentration sulfuric acid Therefore, should be stronger consistent our results. Our study emphasizes influence aerosol–radiation interaction NPF. These results have potential improve source nuclei scale due impacts interaction.
